CEMA
CEO / President
Thanksgiving…it seems to mean more this year.
I won’t lie though, being thankful is a tall order. 2020 has been like the gag gift that keeps on giving.
We’re all supposed to be with family and friends right now, but like so many times in the past nine months, our plans have changed. These sacrifices are never easy, but they are necessary; and they will help us pull through.
So instead of focusing on what we can’t control… focus on what we can. Our attitude! Start by doing something different. Crack out a board game. Call someone you haven’t talked to in years. Watch a movie. Drink wine. Heck… even tell bad turkey jokes!
CEMA has been through a lot this year and the one thing I give thanks for most is all of you.
Thank you for your support and energy. We would not have survived the last nine months without it.
I leave you with this quote – “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Stay safe and healthy.
– Kim
MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Yvonne Healy
Sr. Experiential Events Manager, Global Events
Dolby
Yvonne Healy is a Sr Experiential Events Manager at Dolby, where she leads bespoke, cross-functional teams to execute unforgettable brand engagements, in-person and online.
The daughter of an Apple engineer and Roche immunohistochemist, Yvonne grew up curious and inquiring. She split her time between Ireland and Cupertino until she moved to New York City to live, work, and study.
While attending NYU, Yvonne’s career started in special events planning and catering management for West Village boutique firm Creative Edge Parties. There she planned highly customized weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, non-profit fundraisers, corporate celebrations, and high-fashion product launches. She then moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area, spending many years in the retail space at Nordstrom, Pottery Barn, and Paper Source, where she executed local events with provable ROI to support corporate initiatives.
Now focused on high-tech experiential events for Dolby, Yvonne brings a unique and varied background to event strategy and management. She continues to be logical, ever questioning, and an out-of-the-box thinker but her hallmark is leading teams via clear, practical workflows while actively dedicating space for each voice to be heard, respected, and valued.
In the last eight months, Yvonne has led Dolby’s pivot-to-virtual event approach. This has included building app and web-browser-based audience destinations, working with technologists to identify content pipelines, and re-building event strategy for a digital-first world with company leadership. She has mad hustle and thrives in the messy and innovative intersection of business and sales goals, Marketing strategy, immersive brand experience, and technology.
Little known fact: Before joining Dolby, Yvonne took a year off to join Americorps. During this year, she had the amazing experience of teaching a class of third graders as part of San Francisco Mission District non-profit Mission Graduates. She naturally helped plan many events for the program but also found great joy in being the Leonard Flynn Elementary S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) specialist.
Congratulations to CEMA Member Carolyn Muller Brown
PCMA has shined a spotlight on a member twice this Fall. First, the 11th Bay Area Meetings Industry Excellence awards created 12 years ago by PCMA NCC named Carolyn Muller Brown, Supplier of the Year 2020 on October 22 in their first ever Virtual BAMIE awards evening. And in the same month, Brown also earned her DES designation completing the recent late Summer course offered by PCMA online.
The BAMIE Supplier of the Year award honors a supplier who exemplifies professional excellence in their contributions to their organization, and the business events community. This individual adapts to industry changes and expectations and is passionate, connected, ethical, and knowledgeable. This person is a true “partner” in business.
Carolyn has become an outstanding top sales contributor in Los Angeles Tourism since joining almost 9 years ago, expanding LA presence in the Northern California markets and recently acquired Pacific Northwest and Mountain regions.
Over the past 18-24 months her work within our events industry also helped benefit or raise awareness about Pet Adoption, Toys for Tots, or Anti Human Trafficking. Brown has also taken great pride in mentoring many individuals whether in hotels, or DMOs via her volunteerism or day to day responsibilities where she represents over 160 lead member hotels for the second largest city in the United States.

Drive to Thrive Membership Campaign
Despite a successful pivot, CEMA faces a tremendous challenge in sustaining the association through this uncertainty. That is why we’ve launched “Drive to Thrive” a new and bold campaign to promote CEMA membership renewals, new member growth and other innovative ideas to generate new revenue.
- CEMA Summit is our second biggest revenue source and our digital CEMA Summit 2020 didn’t generate nearly the revenue that a live event would have brought in.
- Membership dues remain our main revenue source, and the best way to support CEMA is to renew your membership now.
- Drive to Thrive will allow CEMA to continue to deliver exceptional experiences and value, helping each other embrace the “next normal.”
We’re coming back better than ever. We’re all in this together and we shall all try, fail and succeed – together!
