Senior Director, Global Event Marketing, Splunk
CEMA Board Member

Does anyone else feel like our return to events is speeding up the pace of time rather significantly of late? I just looked up and it’s almost May and I really don’t remember marking the end of February. And if it is almost May that means the first true event season since Fall/Winter 2019 is about to start. It seems like it’s finally time.

And I cannot wait. Cannot wait for tired feet, the blisters, last minute changes from executives, onsite team dinners filled with laughter, the inevitable crash when I return home, the nerves right before a keynote starts, the masses of people, the moment our teams’ brilliant ideas come to life fully. It’s been too long and whatever mental, physical, emotional acrobatics are required to get our Splunk programs to Day 0, I’m ready for it. It’s time.

While I’m preparing for how I coax my feet back into submission for your event programs or ours, there is another program that requires me to dust off my long dormant networking skills (let’s be honest – they are real dusty). CEMA Summit awaits us in July! Oh Nashville… Oh CEMA… I’ve missed you both and cannot wait to celebrate you both. A little bit reunion, a lot educational and a Grand Ole Opry sized history book of fun – If you haven’t registered for this year’s CEMA Summit, it’s time. Get some rest and stock up on your foot care friends, it’s time to do the things again.

Becky Kavanagh

Director, Experiential Marketing and Operations, Mandiant

Becky Kavanagh, a long time CEMA member and former Board Member at Large, recently joined cyber security leader Mandiant as Director, Experiential Marketing and Operations. In her new role she is developing a new event portfolio of events under the banner, Mandiant Worldwide Information Security Exchange (mWISE™), which include executive level events and a conference for the broader security community.

Becky has more than 20 years of event marketing experience, and this new role sees her return to the cyber security industry where she previously worked on the RSA Conference for 9 years. She has been fortunate to work on past events with very strong customer fan bases with companies like Workday, Ellucian, and Google. During the pandemic, Becky spent a lot of quality time with her dog Willa and joined the legion of Peloton riders riding the bike that goes nowhere–amazing what you can accomplish standing still sometimes! Becky is thrilled that travel and in-person events are returning. She has a passion for travel and photography and is excited to plan long-delayed trips. Scotland, the Nordic countries, and Greece top the list to explore next.

CEMA Board Looks Ahead to 2023

CEMA Board Meeting - Hawaii

After solemn contemplation led by Corey Campbell, one of Hawaii’s leading Akamai trainer, the board members then rolled up their sleeves discussing CEMA’s key ’22-23 directives. Each member contributed ideas for growing CEMA’s membership and raising the bar on value to members and the event community. All attendees were treated royally by Kimberly Forte at Waikiki Marriott and Ernie Garcia at Visit Hawaii. If this looks like a great time, be sure to inquire about becoming a board member next year!

Report for CEMA Members: Getting Back Together Again? Get the Latest Events Insights & Forecast for 2022

Why CEMA

As part of Impact Point Group’s full suite of services for clients, we not only continuously observe events objectively to bring the latest trends to our clients, but also to provide an analysis which serves as an extra layer of insight for event strategy as a whole. In our new and inaugural Quarterly Event Insights for 2022, we continued the tradition from our quarterly Digital Event Forecasts which was packed full of analysis and recommendations, and launched a more compressed, fresh take for the future of events.

We found that digital is here to stay, but we see a need to balance this with highly compelling in-person experiences the likes of which we’ve never seen before. As event strategists, we get to shape the long-term future of events by testing and amplifying our integrated strategies throughout the upcoming months. Calling all Experts: Help Us Build the CEMA Knowledge Base

One of our core tenets as a member organization is generous knowledge and experience sharing. Over the years, we’ve worked to build a repository of expert content on the CEMA website with our CEMA Blog and Case Study/White paper section. Last year, the pandemic put a hold on that activity, but we are ramping it back up in 2022.

We’re encouraging all CEMA members to become guest contributors this year. It’s a great way to promote your brand, your team and yourself, while helping inform and enlighten your fellow members.

We welcome content on just about any relevant event marketing topic, but one thing we really want to showcase is the creativity and innovation that’s taken place over the past 12 months to pivot successfully from in-person events to digital – and now, the road back to live events. Topics include:

  • Unique ideas and programs that are driving participation and engagement.
  • Breakthrough strategies and programs that helped re-define participant experience in digital environments.
  • Calculated risks that worked – and lessons learned from the ones that didn’t.
  • Smart, creative approaches to architecting hybrid events
  • Exciting technologies and services that are supporting event marketers as the landscape shifts.
  • Trends, promising new approaches, best practices, tips, and advice.
  • Thoughtful perspectives on “the next normal” – experience, engagement, security, balance, wellness, etc.
  • New measurement models and how data is informing event ROI.

Content Specs:

  • The ideal length is 300-500 words but we’re flexible. If a case or white paper is longer, we’ll post a summary on the CEMA site and link to the full document.
  • A relevant and compelling image, chart or graph is always good.
  • Of course, your name, title and if possible, a headshot.

Don’t let length, format or your bandwidth be an obstacle to sharing! Send what you have to patrick.foarde@thegandalfgroup.com and we’ll work with you to get it published!
Don’t wait! Send your story today. We’re excited to share your great work!
